BROOKLYN PARK, MN USA – August 14, 2025 – Matt Pung recently finished his 2025 internship at Trusted Semiconductor Solutions and is on his way back to Purdue.
What advice would you give a freshman that wants to make a difference but isn’t sure how?
“Every experience is a learning opportunity. That’s not just for you, but the people around you. By asking questions and being the learner that I am, I’ve been able to help those around me ask questions. That makes a difference in more ways than finishing a project. There’s a big personal aspect in working with designers. They want to learn, that’s who they are.”
What do you do at TSS?
“I helped design a Rad Hard cryptography chip.”
How do you spend your time when not at TSS?
“I’m a junior at Purdue. When not in class I am a men’s club volleyball player.”
What made you go into chip design?
“I am majoring in computer engineering. I found TSS through the SCALE program. Through that, I learned about CPU architecture and realized I wanted to transition to design. The people I’ve met through this work are the most driven and intelligent I’ve ever met.”
You’ll be joining TSS full-time upon graduation, what are you looking forward to about this role?
“The people at TSS are hardworking and intelligent. There’s a lot to learn here. It’s an amazing place to learn the fundamentals. I feel like a critical player that is making a difference, even as an intern. That’s really rewarding as a new college graduate. I feel like I’m part of the team and contributing to our growth. I’ve been given a lot of responsibility and that’s really appealing.”
What’s your favorite thing about working in the space industry?
“The chips we’re making are at the edge of the limits of physics. I’m passionate about the tech fields in general and being one of the pioneers is exciting.”
